BACKGROUNDS : The visits of patients who want to treat the osmidrosis were increased due to the improvement of living status. surgical methods, therefore, that removes only sweat glands with the minimum of scars in short time have been studied. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical and histological results of manual and Inaba's method.
METHODS: The authors reviewed 48 patients who were treated under the diagnosis of osmidrosis in Kun San Medical Center by use of the manual method in right axilla and Inaba's method in the left axilla from May 1992 to June 1994. We choose the single incision-flap method and 48 patients were analyzed in 2 apocrine and eccrine glands removed were compared by the histological biopsy in before and after the operation.
The complications of these methods followed for at least 4 months up to 13 months after operation.
The results of our studies are as follows.
1. In histologic comparison, apocrine glands were removed completely by both methods, and Inaba method reduced more eccrine glands than manual method.
2. The opreation time was 15 minutes shorter in Inaba method than the manual method.
3. The complications, flap necrosis 12%(6/48), hypertrophic scar 6%(3/48) and hematoma 12%(6/48) occured by manual method, instead of only hematoma 12%(6/48) showed by Inaba method without any other complications.
CONCLUSION: Inaba method is brief and faster than manual method and produce less complications and same effect in the aspect of removal of apocrine glands.
